Best mining software of 2019
While the value of cryto currencies such as Bitcoin may have fallen over the past year, the underlying distributed ledger technology (DLT) still has a good long-term outlook.
Though at present crypto currencies are not regulated, the overwhelming success of Bitcoin (BTC), along with Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), and Litecoin (LTC), means that governments and banks are already considering how to bring them into mainstream use.
And the reason for doing so isn't hard to understand - crypto currencies present an unrivalled way to speed up financial transactions and reduce costs. Better still, ordinary people can mine their own currency, though this does require some patience.
If you've decided to take the plunge and have bought your own Bitcoin (BTC) mining hardware or mining rig, your Litecoin mining pool software step is to connect to a mining 'pool'. This allows Litecoin mining pool software to share your machine's resources over the internet and receive a portion of the mining profits in return.
There are a number of programs available to help manage your crypto-mining. In this guide, we've explored five of the most popular. If you're an experienced computer user, you may prefer to install the free operating system Linux and make use of one of the text-only programs such as CGminer.
If you prefer to keep things simple and are sticking with Windows 10, mining clients with a GUI such as MultiMiner may suit you better.
Before getting started, if you want to be sure a mining program will work with your particular device or operating system, the Bitcoin Wiki has a very helpful list.
1. Litecoin mining pool software flexible mining program that supports almost every platform
Highly customizable
Cross-platform
Windows version is difficult to install
CGMiner has been around for over six years and is coded in C, meaning it’s compatible with almost all operating systems. It works via a simple command line interface and supports multiple mining pools and devices. It's primarily designed to be used with hardware mining devices but Litecoin mining pool software make use of any GPUs connected to your machine as well.
On first run, CGMiner will ask you to enter the URL, username and password (if necessary) for your mining pool, and it will automatically detect any hardware you have connected such as an ASIC device.
Although you have to work with CGMiner via the Litecoin mining pool software line, the layout is very easy on the eye: mining devices are listed at the top and you can use simple keyboard commands to change your settings (e. g. to enable verbose mode or detect new hardware).
During our tests using CGMiner 4.9.2 on Windows 10, we found that Windows Defender and our antivirus software tried to block the download. This may be because hackers using their own versions of this program could secretly install CGMiner on someone else's machine to mine for their own benefit. You can configure your system to make an exception for CGMiner if you wish, or use the Linux version.
2. Bitminter
Another cross-platform program with an easy-to-use UI
Preinstalled pool settings
Cross-platform (Java)
Only works with Bitminter pool
The Bitminter Mining Pool has been around since 2011, and as one of the longest-running and most reliable services out there, it's perhaps unsurprising that its creator Geir Hansen has also produced an excellent mining client too.
The Bitminter client has an extremely clear graphical interface and can work with GPUs and external ASIC devices equally well. A simple dial on the left displays your hashrate in MH/s. Simply click 'Engine Start' to begin mining.
You can check progress at any time by reviewing the 'Stats' section which lists vital info such as the number of proofs of work accepted/rejected by the server, as well as the time spent working. You can reset these values at any time.
The Bitminter client also has a text console at the bottom of the window which provides you with updates such as when a device is connected, or when it has successfully connected to a mining pool.
The software has been designed Litecoin mining pool software use only with Bitminter's mining pool. This means you'll need to create an account via the website. You also need to be happy with the location of Bitminter's servers (US, Canada and Europe), as well as Litecoin mining pool software way in which the company shares mining rewards.
3. BFGMiner
A focused mining client which is a tinkerer’s paradise
Available for Windows and Linux
Compatible with FPGA devices
Doesn't work well with GPUs
BFGMiner is based upon the aforementioned CGMiner, but is designed specifically for ASIC mining hardware. The client is also compatible with FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) devices and Litecoin mining pool software be configured to work with some graphics cards – but it's unlikely you'll make a profit from these.
As BFGMiner has a narrow focus, it has more features to allow you to tinker with mining devices, such as overclocking and using a remote interface. It also monitors the temperature of most devices and can connect to multiple mining pools. Furthermore, BFGMiner will stop connecting to unreachable pools, saving you precious system resources.
The interface is text-based, but as with CGminer, options are very clearly laid out. You can make use of hotkeys to perform routine tasks such as monitoring pools, identifying devices and enabling extra features.
Besides offering a simple text interface and an arsenal of features, BFGMiner is available for Windows and all major flavors of Linux. BFGminer can be installed on a Raspberry Pi, too, as part of the free Minera operating system.
4. MultiMiner
BFGMiner made easier for the less tech-savvy
Intuitive graphical interface
Employs mining strategies
Easily manage multiple devices
MultiMiner is a graphical frontend for BFGMiner. As such it has many powerful features but is also much kinder to newcomers.
When you first install and launch Multiminer, the application will guide you through the process of entering your pool information, using helpful tooltips to explain potentially unfamiliar terms.
After setup is complete, MultiMiner will automatically scan for mining devices and list their details in a helpful table, such as the pool used and average hash power. Most importantly, the client will also display your daily projected profit with your current mining hardware.
You can use the 'Pools' tabs to connect to multiple pools Litecoin mining pool software you wish. The 'Strategies' section provides an easy way for you to choose how you want to mine: for instance you can choose to mine automatically based on which coin is most profitable, or choose to mine coins with low difficulty.
During setup the software developer requests that you send 1% of your profits to his wallet as a way of saying thank you for creating this awesome mining software. Litecoin mining pool software is entirely voluntary – you can enable/disable this from within the app in the 'Perks' section.
Multiminer is cross-platform but you Litecoin mining pool software to install additional Litecoin mining pool software to get it working on macOS and Linux.
5. EasyMiner
User-friendly GUI frontend for a pair of mining programs
Easy-to-use graphical interface
Mines using CPU and ASIC/GPU simultaneously
Can cause issues with antivirus apps
EasyMiner serves as a graphical frontend for the mining programs CGminer and CPUMiner. On Litecoin mining pool software run, EasyMiner enters 'MoneyMaker' mode which allows you to automatically create a paper Litecoin wallet and start mining right away with a private pool. As convenient as this is, it's unlikely to generate much profit at the current difficulty rate.
The dashboard has a neatly laid out interface to allow you to configure mining pools, amend network settings and view your wallet. You can also use the settings feature to enable ASIC hardware such as an Antminer. This done, simply click 'Start Mining' to begin.
EasyMiner includes a console which informs you of the progress of CGminer (cgminer. exe) and CPUMiner (minerd. exe), which by default are used to mine Bitcoin and Litecoin respectively. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to switch off CPUMiner if you're only interested in Bitcoin.
During our tests on Windows 10, Avast Litecoin mining pool software also automatically removed both the main EasyMiner program and CPUMiner, as malicious hackers have previously installed their own versions of these programs on other people's machines to mine coins for themselves as part of a botnet.
If you're interested in EasyMiner but don't want to deal with Litecoin mining pool software alerts, the program will work on Ubuntu Linux using Wine (see here for more info).

What is Litecoin?
See the Litecoin Association's introductory video to Litecoin.
Just like its older brother Bitcoin, Litecoin is an online network that people can use to send payments from one person to another. Litecoin is peer-to-peer and decentralized, meaning that it is not controlled by any single entity or government. The payment system does not handle physical muning, like the dollar liteocin the litecoon instead, it uses its own unit Litecoin mining pool software account, which is also called litecoin (symbol: Ł or LTC). This is litfcoin you sortware often see Litecoin categorized as a virtual or digital currency. Litecoins can be bought and sold for traditional liteoin at a variety of exchanges available online.
If you already know Bitcoin, Litecoin is very litexoin, the two main differences being that it has faster confirmation times and it uses a different hashing algorithm.
What is Mining?
Instead of having one central authority that secures and controls the money supply (like most governments do for their national currencies), Litecoin spreads this work across a litecoon of “miners”. Miners assemble all new transactions appearing on the Litecoin network into large bundles called Blocks, which collectively constitute an authoritative record of all transactions ever made, the Blockchain.
The way Litecoin makes eoftware there is only one blockchain is by making blocks really hard to produce. So instead of just softwars able to make blocks at will, miners have to produce a cryptographic hash of the block that meets certain criteria, and the only way to find one is to try computing many of them until you get lucky and find one that works. This process is referred to as Hashing. The miner that successfully creates a block is rewarded with 12.5 freshly minted litecoins.
Every few days, the difficulty of the criteria for the hash is adjusted based on how frequently blocks are appearing, so more competition between miners equals more work needed to find a block. This Network difficulty, so called because it is the same for all miners, can be quantified by a number; right now, it is 6,171,009.
Should You Mine Litecoins?
Litecoin mining can be profitable, but only under certain conditions. In the early days people could make a profit by mining with their CPUs Litecoin mining pool software GPUs, but that is no more the case today. The introduction of specialized mining hardware (commonly referred to as ASICs), which can mine much faster and much more efficiently, has made finding blocks much harder with general-purpose hardware.
If you compare the profitability analyses for a CPU, a GPU and an ASIC, you will see that the costs of CPU and GPU mining largely exceed Litecoin mining pool software rewards, and even with free electricity the profits are Litecoin mining pool software small that they are hardly worth the effort.
Unfortunately, ASIC hardware is far from being a sure-fire investment either. Potential buyers should be extremely careful, as various elements should be considered:
- Power consumption: you mmining want to pay more in electricity than you earn in kining difficulty:
Most importantly: always do your own research, and never trust any single source of information. Good starting points are LitecoinTalk. io Litecoin mining pool software the /r/litecoin and /r/litecoinmining subreddits.
Don't feel like investing in expensive hardware? That's fine! Not everyone needs pkol be a miner. In fact, the easiest way to get started with Litecoin is to buy some at, ining exchange.
What are Mining Pools?
As we've seen above, finding a block is very hard. Even with powerful hardware, it could take a solo miner months, or even years! This is why mining mininng were invented: by sharing their processing power, miners can find blocks much faster. Pool users earn Shares by submitting valid proofs of work, and are then rewarded according to the amount of work they contributed to solving a block.
The reward systems used by mining pools can be roughly subdivided into two categories: proportional systems and pay-per-share systems.
- Proportional systems skftware round-based: the pool waits until one of its users finds a block, then distributes the reward among all its users, proportionally to the number of shares each user submitted. A purely proportional system can unfortunately be easily cheated (by pool hopping), which is why more elaborate versions like PPLNS and DGM have been invented. In a pay-per-share (PPS) system, users are not rewarded based on how many blocks the pool actually finds, but rather on how many blocks the pool was expected to find Litecoin mining pool software the amount of work done by its users. The pool pays a fixed amount of litecoins for each valid litdcoin its users submit, based on the mathematical laws of probability. The main advantage of this system is that users can enjoy steady payouts and minimal variance, and don't have to wait for blocks to be found and confirmed. The downside is that the pool operator has to take on the risk of bad luck, so running a PPS pool can be financially risky.
Choosing a mining pool can be a very personal decision, and several factors should be taken into consideration, including features, reliability, reputability, and user support.
What Software to Use?
ASIC devices usually come with mining software preinstalled on an Litecoin mining pool software controller, and require little to no configuration. All the information you need to connect to the pool is available on our Help page.
If Litecoin mining pool software have decided to do some CPU mining (just for the Litecoin mining pool software of it, since as we've seen above you are not going to make any profit), you could download Pooler's cpuminer. GPU mining is considerably harder to set up, and not much more efficient than CPU mining when compared to ASICs. Therefore, unless you're a historian doing Litecoin mining pool software on the early days of Litecoin, GPU iltecoin is almost certainly a bad idea.
