I read in the wild some folks are utilizing the Xeon Phi for Zcash mining. If this is legitimate; what kind of hashrates are we looking at? I've found nothing yet.

Probably less than 1.5 Sol/s per core. I've tested around 10 different CPUs and those with higher clocks are much much better performers (over 2.9Ghz per core in boost mode are good) .

But if you compile sources with offload mic for xenon phi and avx-512 it could get better result for tromp solver, but xenoncat is in assembly so no benefits from compile on better cpu. and all that cores using the same memory. so would be low GB/s per core.

Long term if it shows resilience I believe asic architecture will be developed. Asic can be developed for any coin just depends on the demand, value, roi, etc

When an ASIC is built, will there be a hard fork to foil it?

Also, I notice there is no ethereum ASIC. Do you know why?

There is no ethereum asic because it's not worth it. It's just cost too much to develope and manifacture because it needs a lot of ram. Maybe it could be more efficient than a gpu, but overall Xeon phi 5110p bitcoin mining will Xeon phi 5110p bitcoin mining be cheaper. If a New gpu chip is coming out, millions of it will be manifactured. If you make an ethereum asic, probably won't do millions of it, so it will be more expensive even if you can do at least as good job as AMD/Nvidia engineers.

The bitcoin asic is completly different. The SHA-256 algorithm is much simpler, it's "easy" to make a chip for it. Btw you didn't have competitor in the early days, because optimized sha-256 computing was not a common usecase according to ethereum algo, where gpus do a good job. This is the difference.

Of course it's absolutely not 100%, but I can imagine it as an engineer.

I believe that a hard fork would be necessary. We don't want asics. This gives the small guy a slightly better chance.

As for ETH. There may be an asic in the wild. however the chance of ETH goin away from POW - work based mining, to not equates to making all of that mining equipment useless. This is probably why Asic devs have been slightly off put about going that route.

How to find out the reason why your transaction is stuck

This blog post will be about the lightning network (LN). I tried to make this article as newbie-friendly as humanly possible, so i had to leave out and/or simplify several technical aspects.

What is the lightning network?

First things first: the lightning network is NOT an intrisic part of the bitcoin network. You can continue to use your bitcoin wallet exactly as you would have used it before the LN was introduced. If you’re not interested in the LN, you can just forget it ever existed.

The lightning network is a new protocol that uses the bitcoin blockchain in order to record the opening and closing of channels. It is built on top of the bitcoin protocol. So, every lightning wallet is in fact also a bitcoin wallet, while most bitcoin wallets are not lightning-compatible.

The lightning network is basically a protocol that allows users to open payment channels between their lightning wallets or nodes. Minibg opening of a channel is recorded on the bitcoin blockchain. The value of the opening transaction is the value with witch the channel is funded.

After the opening transaction has been confirmed and has a couple confirmations, the 2 people that have a channel opened between them can now send transactions to eachother without recording them on the blockchain. This process is almost instant, and because the transactions are not broadcasted to the bitcoin network, they’re (allmost) free. If several Xeon phi 5110p bitcoin mining have open channels between them, it becomes possible for 2 people that are not bltcoin connected to send funds to eachother by using other people’s channels. I’ll give some practical examples in the next section.

Example A: 2 friends saving on miners fees and time by opening a lightning channel between them

Situation: friend A and friend B borrow money from eachother all the time, they pay gas money to eachother, they buy eachother lunch from time to time,… So there is a continuous flow of fiat money between them on a daily basis. Up untill now, everything was settled afterwards in FIAT money, which was a petty, because sometimes they forgot to pay money back, leading to discussions.

Sollution: friend A and friend B open a channel between them. They fund this channel with 0.05 Xein each. From now on, each time a friend borrows money from the other friend, a lightning invoice is created and payed by the other friend. Technically, both friends just Xeon phi 5110p bitcoin mining a new transaction with a different division of the funds and share this transaction between them. If they hadn’t used the lightning network, 4 transactions would have been recorded, and each time the friends would have had to wait untill the transaction was confirmed

Example B: the lightning NETWORK
