ASIC Mining on Raspberry Pi

ASIC Mining on Raspberry Pi

12 Mar 2018

I’ve had some pretty terribad ideas in the past. Not the least of which is OpenStack Miinng on USB Keys, or the pre-chaos engineering random VM snapshot Raspberry pi bitcoin mining asic. In that vein, I bring you ASIC Bitcoin mining on Raspberry Pi.

As you Raspberry pi bitcoin mining asic, keep in mind, that the goal here, like in the afore mentioned posts is not to be practical. Rather this is a “because I can” project. The conclusion of which will be to run the miners inside containers backed by Kubernetes. But, that is for another time.

The Gear

For this project, I reused my Kubernetes / OpenFaaS cluster, and added some ASICs. Here’s a reminder of the parts:

Note: Those are Amazon links. I’m not sure if my affiliate account is still active, but if so, this is full disclosure that they may indeed bitcon affiliate links.

The setup

These are still configured as they were in my OpenFaaS post.

Installing cgminer

For these particular ASICs, one needs to first compile cgminer with the appropriate support. To ensure I can do this again at some point, I wrote an Ppi playbook to do the heavy lifting for me:

For those not familiar with Ansible, here’s what it is doing:

12-17: Miinng apt Raspberry pi bitcoin mining asic install prerequisite packages (build-essential, and so on)19-29: Create, and then ensure directories exist for the source and raspbergy Downloads the patched cgminer source with 2PAC support41-59: Runs both the prebuild setup and then compiles cgminer61-65: Configures cgminer67-95: Sets up cgminer to start on aaic is then installed, sort of like this:

After a long while (these are raspberry pi’s after all), the service is installed, and mininy are mining:

    Service status:

    Check in on cgminer itself:

This was a fun one. To get this a bit more stable, I likely need to relocate the “cluster” to my server Raspberry pi bitcoin mining asic for better cooling, the little USB keys get painfully hot. Another thing on the todo list for this, is to have cgminer run inside a container, and then on K8S.

There are two things you need to do:

Download a bitcoin Raspberry pi bitcoin mining asic a pool account

    Set up paymentSet up workers

    Download a Bitcoin Wallet

A wallet is a program that sits on your computer and gives you a wallet address, this is a unique string of numbers and letters that you will use to receive bitcoins. Download the client for your computer from https://bitcoin. org/en/download

After installation, you will have to save a file called wallet. dat, keep this file safe, as this contains your unique wallet address within it, including all bitcoins that you will gain. If you lose this file, you cannot recover any bitcoins it contained.

Create a Pool Account Once you have a wallet Raspberry pi bitcoin mining asic, create a pool account. A pool is a huge collection of other people working towards gaining bitcoins. Due to the complexity of mining a bitcoin, it has Raspberry pi bitcoin mining asic unrealistic to solo mine–the act of processing millions of numbers to solve the block problem. Working as a group, or pool, lets everyone have a chance of earning some Bitcoin. There are many pools around, in this tutorial I’ll be using one called Slush’s pool: https://bitcoin. org/en/download

    Set Up Payment

Once you have created a pool account, you'll Raspberry pi bitcoin mining asic to enter your unique wallet address into the Bitcoin payout address.

    Create Worker Account

Next step is to create a worker login account. Within your pool account you have the ability to create something called a worker for each of your bitcoin miners, so you're able to monitor them all separately just in case one should fail.

Each worker has its own login name and password. Whilst you are on My Accountclick Register New Worker and give it a name, for example; worker, and a password. Now you're ready to set your Raspberry Pi mining for Bitcoin.

    Bitcoin Mining on Raspberry Pi2

Hi, can you provide some guidance.

    After inputting the following command.

    Pi@RaspPi01 ~/cgminer $ sudo./autogen. sh export LIBCURL_CFLAGS=.-I/usr/include/curl. sudo./configure --enable-bmsc sudo make

. into my RPi B, I get the following errors towards the end of the output.

    Ccan/Makefile. am: installing `./depcomp'

    Configuring.

Checking build system type. Invalid configuration `export': machine Raspberry pi bitcoin mining asic not recognized

Configure: error: /bin/bash./config. sub export failed

Am I missing some input Raspberry pi bitcoin mining asic or doing something wrong?

    Thanks,
